Support - Troubleshooting

The FDC-2010-K5C offers several features to assist in troubleshooting an operational (operator induces) or functional (control output) issue or concern.

Notification of abnormal Kiln condition: Alarm relay outputs may be wired to stack lights, horns, etc., that an abnormal Kiln condition exists. Remote notification via Email / SMS Text Messaging on an Alarm condition (Ethernet to LAN connection required) is also a standard feature. For more information on LAN email/SMS Test click LAN Features.

The remaining features include current status of outputs (Output Monitoring), Force Outputs (Kiln is in the off mode) to observe action of the controlled element (vent open, call of heat, spray, etc.), review of Alarm Historical Files and review of the Operator actions on any given date ( Operator Audit Trail).

Email when Alarm conditions occur

Email settings allow the administrator or user to enter up to 30 user accounts to receive email/text message alarms. The message sent will include the Alarm name as configured by your vendor. For more information on email / SMS Text messaging click on User Configuration and/or LAN Features.

Output Monitoring

The IO monitor screen displays digital output status as well as additional kiln data.  The output status section displays the current position of all outputs/events in the system. The green LED indicates on/off status for each output.  Variable output values for heat, fan, vent and spray will only be displayed if configured in the system for variable type output control.

From the Main View on left below, select Setup Menu then Kiln Settings Menu select "IO Monitor"

Force Outputs to confirm operation

The force output screen is an offline function that provides factory personnel or maintenance the ability to manually enable/disable outputs on the FDC-2010-K5C system.  This feature is used only for trouble shooting during system maintenance and/or system commission.

Refer to the above section on Output Monitoring; from the "Settings" menu select "Offline" and then "Force System Outputs"

Analog values are adjusted by pressing the field and entering a value.  Relay outputs are energized/de-energized by clicking on the “check box” next to the output.  Pressing the “Update Relay Outputs Force” button will energize or de-energize the selected outputs.

Alarm View and Alarm Historical File

The FDC-2010-K5C offers a current View of all Active & Acknowledged Alarms, an Alarm History that contains history of all alarms with each file being saved as month_day_year (each day an alarm occurs will start a new file). An Alarm History file may be printed directly from the display and/or may be emailed assuming Ethernet LAN connection.

The Alarm view displays all current alarms and it is a helpful tool when troubleshooting a problem.  Any time an alarm activates the background on all view screens will turn red until the alarm is acknowledged.  When an alarm is acknowledged, the backgrounds will return to their normal color but the alarm will stay in the alarm grid.  The alarm will only leave the grid when cleared by an operator.  Only alarms that are not currently active in the system can be cleared from the alarm grid.

Alarm History: The Alarm history view displays all alarms for any daily period for a year or longer (time based on storage usage for data history).  Each time an alarm is active in FDC-2010-K5C system, the alarm is written to a history file.  History filenames are listed as month_day_year.  The history alarm grid displays alarm type, date and time for each alarm. The “Open File” button will display an “open” dialog box where the user can select any alarm history file to view. Once a file is selected and opened a view as shown directly below will be shown.

Forward Alarm History File via email for review and/or archive: Alarm History (as well as Audit Trail & Historical Data files) may be sent upon demand (via email) to established email user accounts directly from the FDC-2010-K5C. Sample graphic above shows the an envelope that when pressed the Select Email Address window pops with the user adding the appropriate email addresses and hit Send.

Print (locally) Opened Historical File: With an Alarm Historical file open and a local USB printer connected depressing the printer icon at the bottom of the display will print the opened Historical file. Click here for additional information on printing direct from the FDC-2010-K5C

Shown below is a sample printout.

If the Alarm History file is exported (file utilities in Datalogging section system) or emailed to a PC, opened in Excel and printed the same data would be shown.

Operator Audit Trail

The FDC-2010-K5C Security system provides 3-levels of security and when enabled an Operator Audit Trail to be created logging every operator action conducted on the color touch screen, either locally or via VNC Remote Access. Click here for link to Security System description.

Each time an operator changes views, setpoints, starts/stops schedules, etc., the action is written to a history file.  History filenames are listed as month_day_year.  The audit trail grid displays action description, date and time for each operator action. The “Open File” button will display an “open” dialog box where the user can select any audit trail file to view. Once a file is selected and opened a view as shown directly below will be shown.

note email envelope on above screen graphic - see above Alarm History to learn more on email specific audit trail files.

Print (locally) Opened Historical File: With an Alarm Historical file open and a local USB printer connected depressing the printer icon at the bottom of the display will print the opened Historical file. Click here for additional information on printing direct from the FDC-2010-K5C

Shown below is a sample printout.

Note: The FDC-2010-K5C Audit Trail does NOT include any actions taken from a PC Supervisory software (via serial modbus) whether a 3rd party or Future Design Controls KilnView; KilnView, if so configured offers a similar security system with its' own Operator Audit Trail of PC actions.

Remote Access to View Operation and observe Troubleshooting from remote location

For those times when the supervisor is not at the Kiln location the FDC-2010-K5C's VNC Server provides Remote Access via Ethernet connection to a LAN (Intranet or Internet). From a remote PC or PDA with VNC Viewer software the appropriate person can access the FDC-2010-K5C's touch screen as though standing in front of it.

Below is a screen capture of how the FDC-2010-K5C touch screen is viewed on a remote PC's 19" monitor appears.
